Western Washington Sports Car Council - April

April 15th, 2002 Minutes from WWSCC April Meeting Overlake Godfather’s Pizza

Representatives from NWDE, ACE, BEAC, UWFSAE, TS, SCCA, MCPS in attendance, along with all officers. Guests tonight were Val K., Annie G., Kevin D., and Jerry L.

The treasurer presented a report. Also, K&K Insurance needs a check for 5/18 Autopilot and other events in the next few months. Susan C. needs a check for the extinguishers she bought. Karl C. needs a check for the cones he purchased. Reminder that any check over $200 requires 2 signatures. The treasurer, president, and vice pres. all have signature authority. The concern that maybe having two check books would be helpful was mentioned. Everyone present agreed it sounded like a good idea.

Old Business:

Rosters: Susan C. needs membership rosters. If clubs haven’t already sent them, please do so.

Specialty Checklists: Alan D. says each checklist will be on its own page on the website. Will be printable in either a Word or PDF format (?). Website will also have examples of timing cards and other items. Clubs need to get them finished and to Alan soon. The council officers will do the event chair checklist.

Husky Motorsports Event (4/14): Report from Brian Carver – about 150 people total that day. AM run groups were done by 11:30am and the PM was done by about 3:00pm. There were about an hour of fun runs during which the UW club worked the course so drivers just paid their $1.00 and ran without having to do a work assignment (which was really great and Karl mentioned since the club worked the course, drivers would have probably been willing to pay $2.00 a run)! Only one small problem with timing during first runs of the first AM run group. The course was a bit tight. They chose not to do audits between run groups, post results at the site nor have “trophy” presentation. Was an oversight and won’t happen next time UW has a WWSCC event. They had 3 runs per driver because that was their understanding of what a “normal” amount with WWSCC was. Susan C. said this event had the best course working she had seen in years – primarily because the club had at least one member at each corner station at all times and really took their jobs seriously. There was also a barbecue put on by the club between the AM & PM run groups.

Slush Banquet: Report from Kelley P. – Scheduled for 4/19/02 at Bison Creek Pizza from 8:00 to 11:00pm. We’ll have lots of pizza, salad, garlic bread and beverages. Door prizes will also be awarded. Beverages will be on a “by ticket” basis. Each person will receive 3 tickets they can use for beer or soda or other non-alcoholic beverage. About 34 people have RSVP’d by today’s date.

New Cones: Report from Karl C. – The new cones are in the BEAC container down in Kent. Thank you Karl!

New Extinguishers & Flags: Report from Susan C. – Susan bought new extinguishers, made new flags, and delivered all to the BEAC van at the UWFSAE event on 4/14.

New Business:

Non-Championship Events: Tabled from last month, discussion if we need to incorporate new rules for the rulebook about how to hold NC events, if we charge a fee for using the WWSCC “customer” base, advertising, insurance, etc. Chuckanut’s series is basically a non-championship series since they use the insurance under the WWSCC “umbrella”. It was decided to revisit this topic at the end of the year if need to change rules in the 2003 rulebook.

Insurance Rates: Report from Karen B. – Rates increased this year, both for per member premiums and per event premiums. Karen presented copies of K&K insurance coverage face sheets and guidelines. There are requirements for course design and this is included in the information. Huge grateful thanks to Karen B. for always dealing with the insurance people and taking care of this stuff!

BEAC Autopilot: Report from Karen – Karen presented the event plan. Rules stewards for the event are Brianne G. in the AM and Alan D. in the PM.

NWR/SCCA 50th Anniversary: Report from Brianne – WWSCC has been asked by Dan Miklovic of NW Sports Car News if the council would like to purchase advertising in the special NWR/SCCA 50th Anniv. issue of NWSCN. It was discussed and suggested that maybe the council could get a larger ad and list all of the council clubs in the advertisement. Brianne will check with Dan about rates, artwork requirements, etc. and present at next meeting.

2002 Sponsorship: Kevin asked if Jim’s Detail Shop was still going to sponsor the 2002 WWSCC season, which all agreed he should J. He and Alan had discussed making a banner ad for Jim’s and also make it “linkable” to the Jim’s website. The council had no issue with that. Jim’s is opening a new location in Auburn!

Next meeting: same place: Overlake Godfather’s on May 20th.

Meeting adjourned at 8:41pm

Kelley Picasso

2002 WWSCC Secretary
