Western Washington Sports Car Council - October

WWSCC October Meeting Minutes          10/21/02        Overlake Round Table Pizza

Called to order: 7:34pm

Guests: Keith Brown, Jerry Lamb, Tom Le Coque, Michael Lee, Nathan Coates, Tom & Karen Wilmot

In attendance: UWFSAE-Michael new rep, TS-Scott M., BEAC-Glen H., MCPS-Denise W., ACE-Susan, CSCC-Steve, SCCA-Ron, no rep from NWDE (Susan to call Tim about this).  VP/Acting Prez Susan, Secretary Kelley, Treasurer Karina, Insurance Focal Karen, Webmaster Alan.  Jerry Lamb volunteered to be SCCA rep if Ron can’t make it to a WWSCC meeting in the future.

Treasurer’s report: Karina presented a corrected report for August/September and a new report for October.  She is using the same format Jake used, but may change it in the future.  She and Brianne changed all the banking information; she is now fully authorized for all financial transactions.

Review of previous minutes: No changes to minutes.  Susan moved to accept, Glen seconded. Passed.

Old Business: UWFSAE: Late Summer Apex:  Michael L: The event cap of 150 was somewhat problematic, but was taken care of for the people who were competing in the points series.  The timing box got whacked and Michael says he will be helping in the future for ensuring finish area compliance.  156 or 157 total participants.  Per Alan, the course needed some “serious cone-kicking” before it was compliant with rules, etc.  Per Glen, the entry limit caps were not consistently advertised, all agreed that in the future, clubs need to put this information in their event plans and be present in all online and hotline advertising.  Also per Glen, the Chiefs at an event need to have very experienced or knowledgeable people to “shadow” them.  Per Tom W., suggestion that UW Chiefs participate at more events even if not racing so they can get a better understanding of how they run.  All agreed the BBQ food was good.  Jerry moved to accept for championship status, Scott seconded, passed.

ACE Dogfight:  Susan C. - Susan presented an event plan and map.  Michael said he would be Rules Steward for the non-stock half of the day (PM), since no one volunteered, Susan will put it to the Autox list for volunteers for RS for the stock half of the day (AM).  ACE is hoping for 4 runs, but knowing Cheney’s surface and the weather in October, may only be 3 runs.  Per Karen, the “new” BEAC timing van will be making its debut, please help in keeping it clean inside (wrappers, water bottles, fruit peels, stray french fries, etc.).

Trophy Committee: Karina – Pictures of the suggested trophies were presented.  Two jacket styles are available and a pullover ¾ zip fleece is also being considered for 2nd or 3rd place.  If we like the red/black combo presented, Karina can bring samples to the November meeting.

New Webmasters: Alan – At the end of the season, Alan will “hand over the keys” Karina and Brent P.  Alan is going to take himself off as the website contact and implement a generic webmaster@wwscc.org email address.

New WWSCC Logo Contest:  Karina – Nothing to report right now, hasn’t talked with other committee members recently.

NWSCN/SCCA anniversary advertisement: Glen – Glen has been trying and trying to get hold of the person to contact regarding this advertisement.  All he has received is an email that said, rather cryptically, “the location is finalized and more info to follow”.  He is still working on the layout and needs clubs to send their logos and contact info.

December Rules Meeting: Susan – Still trying to get the room at Factoria near Red Robin.

New Business: Coneheads Banquet: Susan – Susan has contacted Gretchen Everett for SCCA and has started discussions to have at the same place as in years past in Renton/Maple Valley.

New Meeting Location: Susan – Susan was at the Rogue Ale House recently and the new management there would be happy to host our WWSCC meetings in their meeting space.  Our treatment by management at this Round Table has been rather poor.  We might try it out once, perhaps November meeting?  Need other suggestions for locations too, post to the list.

UWFSAE Proposal: Michael – In discussion with SCCA and BEAC about utilizing their dates and spaces respectively for a practice “series” in November and December to sponsor UWFSAE fundraising efforts.  Too soon to have a November event at Everett West because BEAC’s next meeting is on November 13th, which is prior to next WWSCC meeting.  If UW is mostly looking for fundraising, WWSCC might consider implementing charitable contribution sanction fees for events.  Michael will continue pursuit of the practice series idea with SCCA.

WWSCC Meeting Minutes Cont’d:

WWSCC Business Cards: Glen – Glen is doing a sideline business of making business cards and suggested that maybe we should have WWSCC business cards to hand out.  Everyone likes this idea.  Glen will work on the layout, graphic, etc.  Perhaps we should have a tagline contest as well as a logo contest?

Slush Events: Susan – Everyone needs to talk to their clubs about Slush events.  ACE has thought about only doing a Novice School and not doing a race during Slush Season.  People might think about having a practice or school on the Saturday prior to the event on a Sunday.  A school doesn’t even have to be about driving, it could be about working the course and what goes on at an autocross.  Slush events should be mandated as “members-only”.  We should check with Scott Chytil if he has a way of limiting that on the online registration.  Either way, clubs should submit their rosters prior to the first Slush event for registration to double-check.

Good of the Order: Tom Wilmot is no longer at Boeing and requests that if you’re looking for a car, to call him.  He handed out his business cards. J

Meeting adjourned: 9:05PM
