February 18, 2002

Minutes from WWSCC meeting.

El Tapatio

(There are a lot of people here tonight! Welcome all!)

Short report: AAS – Autoslalom Anonymous is disbanding. L

There is a new club joining the council: UW Formula SAE team. Welcome!

Treasurer’s Report – no report

Coneheads Banquet – report from Noel Wade – Total attendance for Coneheads this year was 110! Ron Bauer put on a great slide show with SCCA trophy presentation and Brianne Green’s WWSCC trophy presentation was also very entertaining. Maplewood Greens had a minimum food & beverage purchase requirement of $3500, which unfortunately was not met. They were extremely understanding and scaled back their minimum requirement to about $3000 so the losses were a little more affordable.

Slush #2 – Record attendance of 206 entrants who received runs, 95 of whom were novices! Scott Miller, the “Rain-Xtravaganza” event chair, reported on some of the issues with the event (long lines, unbalanced morning to afternoon (136 AM and 70 PM), new timing software) as well as the things that went well (new timing software, gave entrants what they actually registered for (3 runs AM and 2 runs PM), use of pre-registration with pre-payment on the web).

Slush #3 – Bill Banning is event chair for “Mist the Apex” by Chuckanut Sports Car Club. They are all ready to go. They are using pre-registration for pre-payment but also for pay at event payment and still offering same-day registration at the event. They will also be using their new software, AccuCros.

2002 WWSCC Championship Series calendar – Still not completely determined. SCCA via Ron Bauer has asked that the other clubs keep the SCCA series in mind for the available dates at Boeing Everett West. Last year the SCCA series had a two-month period without a series event due to the lack of site availability in the area. Ron as the SCCA rep and Susan Collicott as the WWSCC rep are going to be meeting with the management of Emerald Downs regarding using their site and the costs of that site.

Old Business – The subject of the council purchasing new cones for BEAC was discussed at the last meeting. Glen Hernandez discussed these new cones and the getting rid of old cones at the BEAC meeting. BEAC would like to be kept in the loop regarding used/old cone dispersal. Karl Coleman will coordinate the new cone acquisition/old cone dispersal. He asked about other cone sources besides old sources. Brianne Green said she would check her safety company catalogs. Checking on the web was suggested, as well as checking with Seattle Barricade. Definitely need cones that will not blow over. Susan Collicott is making new flags. It was suggested by Ron Bauer to purchase new fire extinguishers at Lowe’s Home Improvement Centers.

New Business – UW Formula SAE group is going to put on a non-championship event on April 14th. This is co-hosted by BEAC and will be at Everett West. They are requesting assistance for help on chairing/etc. for this event and appreciate any constructive feedback they could get. They will be at Slush #3 getting as much exposure and info as possible. They are also going to have a barbecue at their event!

Slush series ’02, not a series, but still going to have a party. Craig Anderson volunteered to secure a date, time, and place, probably Bison Creek Pizza in Burien. The budget is $1.00 per entrant per event to be paid by the clubs who presented the Slush events. The rough estimate for the budget is around $600!

The WWSCC Championship series ’02 will be using the same formula SCCA uses when determining trophy depth for season-end trophies. This also includes the PRO and Street Tire classes. This was a motion made by Alan, seconded, and approved by those present.

The issue of event caps was raised and discussed. There was discussion about limiting the number of novices, of limiting the number of total entrants, of limiting the entrance to members only then filling the rest of the day with non-members to a capped amount, etc. Some sites will simply not accommodate the number of participants that have been at the two previous Slush events, especially Everett West, per Kimball Ayer.

Bill Banning of Chuckanut SCC brings up the point that several seasons ago they had event caps and their event participation dropped off. He says there are a lot of people who believe Chuckanut still has event caps and don’t go to the CSCC events because they are concerned they won’t get to run. Brent Picasso mentions that until events are managed at maximum efficiency, event caps should not be entertained. It is mentioned that Series trophies only be awarded to club members as a way of capping events. Alan Dahl mentions perhaps raising entry fees. The $15/$20 entry fees are really low considering some sites that have to be used are really expensive in comparison to other sites. Any club can have an event cap in their event plan if they wish, it is not something the council has to vote on.

Abbreviation naming of the new classes was discussed. The PRO stock will be PRO1 and the PRO non-stock will be PRO2, with the women’s classes being WPRO1 & WPRO2 accordingly.

Announcement – the September and October meetings will be led by Susan, as Brianne & Sean are expecting! Congratulations! J

Adjourned.
