WWSCC Meeting Minutes - 18 October, 2004
Rogue Brewery, Issaquah
Call to Order – 7:30 p.m.
Attendance – Jerry Lamb (SCCA), Chris Schlosser (NWDE), Ed Dahl (CSCC), Alan Dahl (TS), Dieter Beldi (PSME), Susan Collicott, Enrique Garcia (BEAC), Keith Brown (TS), Karl Coleman (SCCA), Dustin Schneider, John Henderschedt, Kelley Picasso
There was some question regarding the present (associate) membership status of BSCC. Susan will check with Kelly regarding their status.
Minutes – The September meeting minutes were approved without modification.
Treasurer’s Report – Kelley presented the attached report. The trophy budget will be ready for the next meeting.
Old Business
Tech Report – Alan has done a great job with website. He is presently working on automating the data maintenance on the site. Susan has volunteered to do the data maintenance, so at this point we have the web duties covered. The automation will require that Alan develops a substantial amount of code, and Alan has requested that WWSCC purchase $60 - $100 in books for Alan to reference when developing the code for the website. Jerry Lamb moved to authorize a $100 expenditure for books. Karl seconded the motion, which passed without objection.
Alan had a question regarding who is in charge of maintaining the results files. Right now Alan is editing every result file. The result files are auto-generated by Autocross Scorekeeper. Alan will check with Brett.
Equipment -
WWSCC Generator – The generator is not working properly. Sometimes it starts and then shuts off after 10 seconds. Other times it just doesn’t start. Jim Starkovich has offered to look at it in his shop. Karen Babb took it to a shop in the south end last year. We should check with Karen to make sure that last year’s service work is not under warranty. If not, Jim will take it to his shop.
Timing Lights – Keith asked if we have issues with people hitting the timing lights. SCCA charges $150 per hit of either side. BEAC is going to a policy where the club is charged similarly in the even of such an occurrence. There is no charge for (running over) the cable if there is no apparent damage.
Event Review and Vote
Enduro – Approved unanimously.
Sports Car Spectacular – Part of the course was a little on the tight side. Karen thought there would be fewer people on Saturday, which is why the course was run in that direction on Saturday. People were disappointed in the turnout. Turnout could have been low because the SCCA Packwood event was the prior weekend. More likely, it has been a long season and people are just staying home. The trophies were much more expensive this year than they were in previous years. Next year we might want to consider getting them elsewhere or handing out fewer. The advantage to sticking with the same trophy is that leftovers can be used the following year. Torquesteerers were in charge of workers, but didn’t have access to the registration info to print posting sheets. It would have been a good idea to ask Brett for a printout of the posting sheets. It would make sense to have whoever is printing out the registration info to print out the posting sheets.
The Sports Car Spectacular was approved for championship status without opposition.
Dogfight – Stacey and Fast Mike did not show up in the Pro 1 printouts, so Pro 1 competitors were not aware that the Corvette was in their class. We need to recruit good people for timing and scoring. It is very important to have someone who can operate Autocross Scorekeeper at the necessary pace. There were challenges in grid as well – a problem with run order. TO were mixed into the run groups to insure that the spots were full.
Dogfight was approved for championship status without opposition.
Coneheads
Banquet – Kristi Brown made some inquiries regarding possible venues and received two quotes for consideration. Both quotes were the same - $35 per person. One place is at 85th and Greenwood where parking is an issue. The other is FX McCrory’s and Whisky Bar in Pioneer Square. The entire place would be reserved for the Coneheads event. There was some concern that F.X. McCrory’s might be kind of noisy. SCCA prefers the F.X. McCrory’s venue and has made tentative arrangements for January 29. Kristi Brown, Shelby Ziegler, and Kelley have volunteered to help with the banquet. Despite the tentative January date, we should probably have the event on the first weekend in February so that it doesn’t conflict with the 24 Hours at Daytona – that way Greg Fordahl would be able to attend. He has missed several banquets due to that conflict. Folks would also like to get a quote from Mountaineers where the banquet was held in 2004.
Trophies – Susan put out a note asking for volunteers for the trophy committee. There were several e-mail responses with trophy ideas but no volunteers for committee membership. Susan will get back to folks and remind them that they really need to volunteer for the committee.
New Business
Officer Nominations – Kelley Picasso was nominated for Treasurer and John Henderschedt for Secretary. We absolutely need to push the clubs to nominate candidates for President and Vice President.
Slush Series -
Tentative dates are:
TS – Second weekend in February – 2/13/05.
UWFSAE – End of February – 2/27/05
ACE would prefer to not do the first Slush event and the last championship event of the year, so they are likely to sponsor an Slush Series event for the first weekend in March.
2005 Season -
SCCA is shooting for a National Tour and a Pro Solo event for Packwood in July or August of 2005.
ACE - Ace doesn’t want to have the October event. The convertible club should enjoy convertible weather, earlier in the year.
UWFSAE – Perhaps UWFSAE will sponsor the first event (4/18/05?).
Rules Committee Meeting – Traditionally this meeting has been in the first week of December. Enrique will head up the rules committee meeting. Wednesday, December 1 is the proposed date.
Next Meeting – Monday, November 15, 2004
Adjourn – 9:14 p.m.
